Common features of voluntary benefits |
Affordable: Premiums are based on group
participation which keeps costs down.
Flexible:
Most plans offer lots of options to increase the
effectiveness of meeting a variety of needs. The
availability of coverage for spouse and family is enhanced.
Portable: Employees can move their coverage
to other participating companies or go to direct-bill and
pay premiums by check, automatic bank draft, credit card,
etc.
Pays in addition to other insurance: Most
voluntary benefit plans provide for payment in addition to
other coverage with all payments made directly to the
insured--not the service providers or facilities.
Easy to obtain: Voluntary benefits are
offered at work by payroll deduction--making them easily
available. In addition, the group platform makes some
benefits available to hard-to-insure individuals.

Universal life insurance can resolve many of the
financial concerns of employees and their loved ones--and
enhance an overall benefits package without a direct cost to
the employer. It can complement company-provided
coverage and provide additional financial security.
Many younger families with lower salaries often find
term life an affordable option for protecting their
families.
Both products offer a variety of features--portability,
specialty riders, family coverage, unisex rates, age banded
premium, or smoker/non-smoker rates.

Bridge financial gaps with short-term disability.
Convenient, affordable plans help the employee deal with
income-loss due to disability. A sample plan can be
selected for payments up to 12 months, payable from the first
day for off-the-job injuries and the eighth for illness.
Health questions are minimal and benefits of $400 to
$3,000 or more per month can be chosen based on the employee's
salary. In California, plans are designed to pay in
addition to State Disability Income (SDI) and will not exceed 100% of the employee's
salary.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Not.
Lifestyle protection? Yes! Employers can choose
products best suited to the needs of their employee
population.
A variety of accident plans are available. A
typical plan pays on a schedule of benefits ($250 for
medical fees, $100 a day on hospital confinement, death and
dismemberment benefits up to $20,000). It pays in
addition to all other insurance, covers all family members
for the same low price, and protects families from
unexpected medical costs due to accidents.
The statistics on cancer are dramatic. In
the US, men have a 1-in-2 lifetime risk of developing
cancer; women have a 1-in-3 risk. Approximately 8.4
million Americans alive today have a history of cancer.
Cancer claims the lives of more children under age 15 than
any other disease. One cancer plan American Worksite
offers pays expenses incurred because of hospital
confinement and certain other expenses resulting from the
treatment of cancer.
Critical illness insurance generally covers
cancer, heart attack, stroke, renal failure, major organ
transplant, paralysis, coma, and heart-disease-related
surgeries. One plan features a health screening
benefit for 18 tests including mammography and pap-smear.
This plan is easy to understand because employees pick the
amount of protection needed from $5,000 to $100,000.
A lump sum benefit is paid directly to the employee upon
initial diagnosis of the critical illness.
